Understanding Influencer ROI

Engagements = Reach × (Engagement Rate ÷ 100) — likes, comments, saves, shares

Website Visitors = Reach × (Link Click Rate ÷ 100) — people who click the link in bio or Story

Estimated Orders = Visitors × (Website Conversion Rate ÷ 100) — visitors who actually buy

Revenue = Orders × Selling Price — total top-line revenue from the collaboration

Profit (before fee) = Revenue × (Gross Margin ÷ 100) — what you keep after product costs

Profit ROI = (Profit − Influencer Fee) ÷ Influencer Fee — true profit return after all costs including the fee

Revenue ROAS = Revenue ÷ Influencer Fee — how much revenue you generated per rupee paid (can be misleading)

Net Result = Profit − Influencer Fee — your bottom line after paying the creator

Example: ₹10K fee, 50K reach, 5% engagement, 1% link click, 2% website CVR, ₹599 price, 59% margin = 500 visitors → 10 orders → ₹5,990 revenue → ₹3,534 profit → −0.65x Profit ROI, −₹6,466 net. This is why revenue ROAS alone is dangerous.

What good influencer ROI looks like for Indian D2C: A healthy profit ROI (profit after fee ÷ fee) is 1.5x+. That means for every ₹1 you pay the influencer, you keep ₹1.50 in profit after all costs. Most profitable Indian D2C brands see 1.5–2.5x profit ROI with micro-influencers (5K–50K followers) who have strong engagement. Anything below 1.0x means you lost money on the collaboration. Revenue ROAS of 4–5x can still mean a loss — always look at profit ROI, not revenue. Track per-post ROI using unique promo codes and UTM links — never just pay for reach.
